A professional set card is the most important tool for models when applying to agencies and clients. But what does a good set card actually cost, and is there now a cheaper alternative?
What is a set card?
A set card, also called a comp card, is a compact overview of a model's most important photos and data. It usually contains a main photo, two to three further shots in different looks, and the most important measurements and contact details. It is the first thing an agency or client sees.
What does a professional set card cost?
A professional set card shoot in Germany costs between 300 and 1,500 euros, depending on the photographer and scope. On top come costs for make-up, styling and post-processing of the images. Anyone who wants to show several looks needs correspondingly more time and budget.
The AI alternative
At Trickhouse we create set card photos based on reference photos. That means you send us photos of yourself and we generate professional set card shots in different looks, lighting conditions and settings. The result is photorealistic and hard to tell apart from real shoot photos.
What are the advantages?
The biggest advantage is the price. An AI set card costs a fraction of a classic shoot. On top of that comes flexibility: if a look is not liked or new photos are needed, that can be done quickly and inexpensively. No new appointment, no new shoot.
What are the limits?
An AI set card does not replace a classic shoot in every case. Anyone applying to a top agency will often make a better first impression with real photos. For getting started, for social media or for applying to smaller agencies and clients, however, the AI alternative is a fully fledged option.
Conclusion
The set card remains the most important tool for models. The only question is how it is created. For many models, the AI alternative is now a real and economical option that can be implemented quickly and easily.
