Anyone who has organised a professional model shoot knows how quickly the costs get out of hand: model fee, photographer, location, styling, post-processing, and then the tight time window in which everything has to work. For many brands and online shops, this is hardly economical any more.

At the same time, you hear more and more about AI models. But what is really behind them? And is switching worth it?

What a classic shoot really costs

Depending on scope, a professional model shoot in Germany costs between 800 and 5,000 euros per day. This usually includes the model fee, the photographer and possibly an assistant. On top come costs for the location, make-up artist, styling and post-processing of the images.

Anyone who wants to fit 20 outfits into one shoot is fighting the clock. Compromises often have to be made, and in the end you may have 60 usable images for 3,000 euros.

What an AI model costs

At Trickhouse, simple product staging with an AI model starts at a fraction of these costs. There are no location fees, no travel costs, no time pressure and no weather that does not play along. You provide a briefing and we deliver the finished images in the quality you want.

Another advantage: corrections and variations are quick and inexpensive to implement. If the background colour is wrong or the outfit should be presented differently, that is no problem.

What AI models cannot do

Honesty matters to us. AI models are not the best solution for every use case. Anyone who needs authentic behind-the-scenes content, wants to show real emotions or wants to build a real person as a brand ambassador cannot avoid a real shoot.

Very specific movements or complex interactions between several people are also still technically demanding to implement.

Conclusion

For standardised product photos, fashion content and scalable campaign images, an AI model is now the more economical choice in most cases. For emotional brand communication and authentic storytelling content, the classic shoot remains relevant.

The good news: the two are not mutually exclusive. Many of our clients combine classic shoots for emotional campaigns with AI content for the majority of their product photos.
