AI Model vs. Real Model Shoot: What Costs What, and What's Really Worth It?

Anyone who has ever organized a professional model shoot knows how quickly the costs can spiral. Model fee, photographer, location, styling, post-production, and then the tight time window in which everything has to work. For many brands and online shops, this has become barely economical.

At the same time, you increasingly hear about AI models. But what's really behind it? And is switching worth it?

What a Classic Shoot Really Costs
A professional model shoot in Germany costs between 800 and 5,000 euros per day, depending on scope. This typically includes the model's fee, the photographer, and possibly an assistant. On top of that come costs for location, makeup artist, styling, and post-production of the images.

Anyone wanting to fit 20 outfits into one shoot is racing against the clock. Compromises often have to be made, and in the end you might have 60 usable images for 3,000 euros.

What an AI Model Costs
At Trickhouse, simple product presentations with an AI model start at a fraction of these costs. There are no location fees, no travel costs, no time pressure, and no uncooperative weather. You provide a briefing and we deliver the finished images in the desired quality.

Another advantage: corrections and variations can be implemented quickly and affordably. If the background color isn't right or the outfit needs to be presented differently, that's no problem.

What AI Models Can't Do
Honesty matters to us. AI models aren't the best solution for every use case. Anyone who needs authentic behind-the-scenes content, wants to show real emotions, or wants to build a real person as a brand ambassador can't avoid a real shoot.

Very specific movement sequences or complex interactions between multiple people are also still technically demanding to implement.

Conclusion
For standardized product photos, fashion content and scalable campaign visuals, an AI model is today, in most cases, the more economical choice. For emotional brand communication and authentic storytelling content, the classic shoot remains relevant.

The good news: the two aren't mutually exclusive. Many of our clients combine classic shoots for emotional campaigns with AI content for the majority of their product photos.
